Sad Fact About American Life

By Truth About Deception

Despite being more connected than ever before, people have fewer social connections. Suicide is now the leading cause of death by injury.

Technology, increased mobility, and less traditional views towards relationships have undoubtedly made life better for many people.

At the same time, these advances are weakening social connections leading to an increase in chronic loneliness.  A key quote summarizing the latest research on the topic:

“…one in three Americans over 45 identifies as chronically lonely, up from just one in five a decade ago.”

One possible solution to this problem: Nextdoor.  It is a social network site that only allows you to connect with your neighbors providing opportunities for actual companionship.

Face-to-face interaction – not feeling connected via Facebook is what makes for a satisfying life.
